Plaxico?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a receiver named "Plaxico Burress." What sort of name is Plaxico? It sounds like some space-age building material.

Gene,
All of us Plaxico's would love to know the answer. As unique a surname as it is, I'm amazed someone has it as a first name!Makers of plexiglass is another comment...
The latest guess is Basque-or Spanish, with the x.I've searched most of my life...they all come from Henry Plaxco in Penn/Maryland in the 1700's, but the trail stops there.
